How to Create a Bill of Materials (BOM)

Define components, operations, and standard cost before releasing production work orders.

Step 1. Open Manufacturing → Bill of Materials → Create.
Step 2. Enter header: name, finished item, quantity produced, BOM type, source and target warehouses, overhead if used.
Step 3. On Components tab, add raw or semi-finished items with quantity per unit, scrap %, and sequence.
Step 4. On Operations tab, add steps with workstation, setup/cycle times, and labor cost.
Step 5. Review standard cost summary and Activate — only Active BOMs drive work orders.

Tips

Use Copy BOM for similar products and Explosion to see total materials for any production quantity.
